Koji Suzuki's Ring (1991) follows reporter Kazuyuki Asakawa, who investigates the simultaneous deaths of four teenagers, including his niece, by viewing a cursed videotape that promises death in seven days. Assisted by Ryuji Takayama, they uncover the tape was created by Sadako Yamamura, a psychic who imprinted a fatal virus onto the film via a well.
