In a fantasy world of dungeon exploration, adventuring parties venture into dangerous labyrinths in search of treasure, most notably the legendary Golden Country, said to be granted to whoever defeats the “Lunatic Magician.” Those who perish inside can sometimes be revived if their bodies remain intact. The tale begins with a failed attempt to slay a red dragon, during which Falin Touden, a tallman spellcaster, is devoured but manages to teleport her companions—her brother Laios, an eager monster-eating swordsman; Marcille, an elven mage; and Chilchuck, a half-foot locksmith—to safety. Determined to rescue Falin before she is digested, the party presses on with few supplies, agreeing to survive by eating dungeon creatures with the guidance of Senshi, a veteran dwarven cook. Later joined by Izutsumi, a tallman cursed with a cat’s soul, the group continues their perilous journey, navigating traps, monsters, and strange environments while crafting meals from the very beasts that threaten them.
