Deception IV: the Nightmare Princess’ story mode follows a new character, Velguirie, as she is awakened from a long slumber by Ephemera, an automaton (let’s say a kind of android). She has no powers, as she has been weakened through the years, but she still can enter people’s dreams and turn them into nightmares. In the world between dreaming and reality she carefully lures her prey and engages in a fight with them, using traps from her arsenal and her surroundings.  If she wins, she kills her victim and takes his soul, and with it some of her power returns and the player is one step closer to discovering who and what she really is.

  • Quest mode with 100 new quests: The quest tree can lead to different endings to Velguirie’s story. This adds 30 additional hours of  gameplay
  • New Character: Velguirie (the Nightmare Princess). In addition to using traps Velguirie has a set of special moves as she can kick and somersault to push her victims into traps..
  • 50 new traps: bringing the total up to 180
  • Three more playable characters: the protagonists of previous Deception games
  • Three new stages: Gymnasium, Hospital and Playground
  • Enemy Edit: players can create original enemy characters with various parts collected in the quest mode (e.g. hairstyles, costumes)
  • Improved graphics: better lighting and filter effects
  • Improved enemy AI: in advanced levels there are enemies that also attack the player with traps, making those stages extra tricky
  • Expanding level design: based on the player’s progress the level design adjusts to offer more challenges and deeper gameplay
  • Upload and download trap combo replays: A system will be implemented to allow players to watch other users’ trap combo replays and share their own
  • Leaderboards: Previously, core users would share scores online from their own initiative, but in Deception IV we will offer an official place for users to see how they are ranked
  • Compete against other players: Player challenges will allow players to compete against others and put their trap-making skills to the test. When a player gets a high score or a high-level combo, this information is sent to a server and a challenge to beat the score is issued to players worldwide. If a player accepting the challenge is able to complete it, that player wins the challenge; if not, the challenger wins.
